Prime Minister tours restoration works by AX Construction at the Jesuits’ Church ahead of Notte Bianca 2024

AX Construction is proud to partner with the Jesuits’ Church Foundation and the Restoration & Preservation Department to bring a special cultural experience to Notte Bianca 2024, happening on Saturday, 5th October. AX Construction will offer an exclusive, free guided tour of the Jesuits’ Church on Merchant Street, Valletta, where our team is undertaking meticulous restoration work.

This year’s Notte Bianca was officially launched, on the 2nd of October, at the Jesuits’ Church by Prime Minister Robert Abela, who was accompanied by the Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government. His visit underscored the significance of the ongoing restoration as he met with Ms. Denise Xuereb, Director of AX Construction and Development; Mr. Andreas Aquilina, General Manager; Mr. Fabio Billi, Restoration Manager at AX Construction; Father Nicholas Doublet, Rector of the Jesuits’ Church Foundation; and Mr. Mark Azzopardi, Director (Projects) of the Restoration and Preservation Department. During the visit, Ms. Xuereb expressed her pride in leading this outstanding project, stating: “AX Construction is honoured to be entrusted with returning this architectural gem to its original splendour. Our team of skilled restorers is truly making us proud.”

Commencing in 2021, the restoration of the Jesuits’ Church has focused on preserving its art and revitalising its structural integrity. AX Construction, the Jesuits’ Church Foundation, and the Restoration Directorate have spearheaded efforts to conserve the church and its adjoining oratories. Earlier this year, restoration work was completed on the adjoining oratories and the sacristy of the church, marking significant milestones in preserving this historic site. A guided tour of the Jesuits’ Church will be available on the night of Notte Bianca, with tours starting at 6:00 p.m. and the last tour taking place at 10:30 p.m. This event offers a rare glimpse into the restoration process, providing the general public with insights into the history and technical challenges involved in preserving this architectural treasure. With free registration, the tour is a must-visit for those interested in Maltese heritage, offering an exclusive view from the ground floor to the top platform of the scaffolding to explore the church cupola from the inside and witness firsthand the ongoing efforts to protect and restore the Jesuits’ Church for future generations.
